The Ministry of Social Affairs attended the signing ceremony where the International Finance Corporation (IFC) finalized a $10 million financing agreement with Lebanon’s two major microfinance institutions, Al Majmoua and Vitas Lebanon.
Each organization will receive $5 million to expand lending to low-income households and small entrepreneurs.
A key component of this strategy is enhancing access to microfinance for vulnerable families, particularly those enrolled in national social protection programs.
The Ministry explained that the new funding will help Al Majmoua and Vitas increase the number of microloans they can provide at a time when small businesses and families are struggling to secure financing.
Through this partnership, the Ministry plans to refer eligible beneficiaries from its programs, including the AMAN cash assistance program, to microloan opportunities that could help them start or grow income-generating activities.
The Ministry also said it will work closely with both institutions to help beneficiaries prepare for the loan process. This includes covering non-financial support such as guidance, training, and ensuring applicants understand loan terms and how to manage their finances effectively.
By expanding access to microloans, the Ministry aims to give families more chances to improve their livelihoods and build sustainable sources of income.
