The historic city of Byblos is preparing to unveil Lebanon’s first fully immersive digital museum.
The project, titled “The Grand Voyage of the Phoenicians,” was formally announced at a press conference under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and in collaboration with the local municipality and the event’s developer, HYBRID Xperience.
The initiative aims to reinterpret Byblos's ancient heritage through a blend of digital technology, art, and storytelling. According to Tourism Minister Lora Al‑Khazin Lahoud, the project revives Lebanon’s heritage by emphasising the legacy of the Phoenicians, widely regarded as among the earliest Mediterranean traders and navigators.
During the conference, organizers explained that the museum would go well beyond conventional displays of artifacts or documents. Instead, it will offer an immersive, multisensory experience, complete with narrative-driven audio-visual presentations, interactive exhibits, and digital reconstructions designed to transport visitors to ancient Phoenician times.
If successful, the Grand Voyage museum would mark a milestone for Lebanon’s cultural infrastructure: marrying cutting-edge technology, artistic storytelling, and historical legacy.
