The American University of Beirut (AUB) climbed 19 places in the 2026 QS World University Rankings for Sustainability, rising from 205th last year to 176th globally.
The university also retained its top spot in the Arab region, outperforming 145 regional institutions.
In Western Asia, AUB ranks second among 169 institutions, and in Asia, it holds the 18th position out of 815 universities. QS assesses sustainability performance using three main categories: Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Governance (ESG), measured through 52 indicators across nine lenses.
AUB’s strongest results came in Environmental Impact, where it ranks 136th globally and first in Western Asia. The university also achieved high global positions in Knowledge Exchange (78th), Environmental Sustainability (86th), and Environmental Education (152nd).
The ranking reflects AUB’s ongoing work to incorporate sustainable practices across its campus, research, and programs.
