LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - November 28, 2025

Lebanon’s Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, unveiled an infrastructure and economic revitalization plan, aiming to rebuild the country’s roads, bridges, and airports, and to boost the economy.

In an interview with CNN, Minister Rasamny described the project as a foundational step for “returning life” to the country after years of crisis.

The plan begins with a $250 million loan from the World Bank but stretches much further: official estimates place total reconstruction needs,  including roads, infrastructure, and industrial zones, at over $11 billion.

Under the program, the ministry has already launched a national rehabilitation initiative for roads and bridges across more than 25 districts and seven governorates. Work includes resurfacing, maintenance, and reconnecting communities to vital transport routes.

A key component of the plan is the revival of airports. Rasamny highlighted efforts to reactivate the northern Qlayaat Airport (Rene Moawad),  a move he says could significantly boost tourism and commerce in the north.

Meanwhile, the ministry is upgrading the Rafic Hariri International Airport by expanding capacity and modernizing security and passenger systems.

According to the minister, the success of these initiatives depends on securing additional funding and implementing institutional reforms.

With infrastructure repair, improved transport connectivity, and revived airports, the strategy aims to lay the groundwork for a broader economic turnaround across Lebanon.
