LEBANON (Enmaeya News) - November 29, 2025

Lebanon’s General Directorate of State Security announced Wednesday the arrest of a doctor allegedly linked to an organized network trafficking newborn babies. The physician, identified only by initials, is accused of falsifying birth documents to enable illegal transfers of infants.

According to the statement, the doctor had reportedly been cooperating with a criminal gang that facilitated the sale and transfer of newborns. Investigators said he helped forge birth certificates and civil-registration data, concealing the newborns’ real identities and registering them illegally.

The suspect was already subject to an arrest warrant issued by a judicial investigator in the Mount Lebanon region. Upon arrest by a patrol of the southern regional security directorate, the necessary legal procedures were carried out under the instruction of the competent judicial authority.

The case revives concerns over newborn trafficking and adoption irregularities in Lebanon a topic long shrouded in secrecy. Previous investigations by civil-society groups have pointed to extensive irregularities in past adoption practices, including forged documents, altered birth records, and non-transparent transfers abroad.

Authorities say the arrest is part of a broader effort to dismantle human-trafficking networks, with calls growing for stronger enforcement, monitoring of birth-registration procedures, and protection mechanisms for vulnerable infants
