Alfa will test its upcoming 5G network during Pope Leo’s historic visit to Beirut as a live test environment, marking one of the company’s most significant steps toward nationwide deployment.

The telecom operator confirmed this week that it has begun activating 5G in select high-density areas as part of a controlled trial coinciding with the Pope’s multi-day visit, which is expected to draw massive crowds across the capital.

Alfa announced earlier this year that it was investing in new-generation mobile infrastructure.

The temporary activation is designed to test network performance under real-world pressure, particularly in locations where demand is expected to surge due to the high number of visitors.

The 5G launch is coordinated with the Ministry of Telecommunications and the overall national 5G project in Lebanon, involving Alfa and its competitor Touch.
