Environment Minister Tamara Al‑Zein reaffirmed Lebanon’s dedication to multilateral climate action, saying credible climate engagement must begin with consistency between what the country declares and what it implements.
Her statement followed the conclusion of the 30th session of the COP30 held recently in Belem, Brazil.
Al‑Zein emphasized that Lebanon advocated for clear and fair climate financing at COP30 at COP30. She also called for the activation of a Loss and Damage fund specifically for vulnerable states, along with practical adaptation guidelines under the global adaptation goals framework.
Additionally, Lebanon urged safeguards against unilateral trade or carbon-market measures that could further strain Lebanese exports.
Al‑Zein said Lebanon’s participation in climate negotiations is not symbolic: “Credibility begins with coherence between what we declare and what we do,” underscoring that environmental policy must go hand in hand with implementation, transparency, and meaningful financing.
