BEIRUT (Enmaeya News) - December 4, 2025
In a move aimed at modernizing Lebanon’s education system, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) and the American University of Beirut (AUB), through its Government Engagement Platform (GEP), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
This move aims to advance education reform, strengthen institutional capacities, and enhance the quality and governance of online and digital learning.
The signing ceremony, held at AUB, was attended by Dr. Rima Karami, Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Dr. Fadlo Khuri, AUB president, and senior administrators and academics from both institutions.
The partnership will focus on five key areas: evidence-informed policy and research, capacity building for ministry personnel, governance and management support, digital transformation, and experiential learning for AUB students in public schools.
A flagship initiative will develop national quality assurance and accreditation standards for online higher education, aligned with international best practices.
Minister Dr. Rima Karami described the MoU as transformative: “Stronger public institutions mean better learning outcomes and brighter futures for our students. Education must once again become a source of national pride.”
The partnership will also engage AUB students in hands-on community initiatives through the Phil 200B course and the Center for Community Engagement, allowing volunteers to support public schools with teaching, administrative tasks, and school activities.
