The Lebanese American University (LAU) and the Ministry of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation on training, research, and skills development in digital transformation and artificial intelligence, as part of broader efforts to advance Lebanon’s digital governance agenda.
A second agreement was also signed with Htech, focusing on applied learning and innovation. The ceremony was held at LAU’s Beirut campus in the presence of Minister of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence Kamal Chahade, LAU President Dr. Shouki Abdullah, and Htech CEO Hussein Al-Hajj, alongside academics, students, and technology experts.
Minister Chahade described the partnership as a step toward building Lebanon’s “digital republic,” stressing that technology and artificial intelligence should be deployed in service of people, public institutions, and national development priorities.
He also underscored the role of universities in contributing directly to community needs and public-sector reform.
He also called on academic institutions to engage in serving the community.
For his part, Dr. Abdullah said the agreement reinforces strategic collaboration between academia, government, and the private sector, while opening pathways for students to engage in real-world digital projects within public institutions.
He highlighted the importance of aligning technological progress with human values and social responsibility.
As part of the initiative, LAU also signed a separate memorandum with Htech under the Code for Lebanon program, aimed at enabling students to contribute to digital solutions within Lebanese ministries and public administrations.
Htech CEO Hussein Al-Hajj emphasized the central role of young people in building digital infrastructure, driving innovation, and shaping Lebanon’s future digital economy.
