According to a report published by Daily Mail, nutrition experts say that the timing of breakfast plays a key role in regulating cholesterol and protecting heart health.
It is recommended to have a balanced breakfast within two hours of waking. This helps control appetite and reduces the chance of overeating or snacking on unhealthy foods later in the day.
Studies show that skipping breakfast is linked to higher levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol and increased blood fats. In contrast, eating breakfast regularly helps control hunger, improve metabolism, and support heart health.
A Chinese study of over 37,000 adults found that people who skip breakfast have higher blood fats and LDL cholesterol levels. Their HDL (good) cholesterol was lower compared to those who eat breakfast.
Experts advise that breakfast should be rich in plants, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains like oats, nuts, and seeds. These foods contain soluble fiber, which traps cholesterol in the gut and prevents it from entering the bloodstream.
Breakfasts high in sugar, such as pastries, should be avoided. They often contain saturated fats, which raise LDL cholesterol.
In addition to diet, regular physical activity, especially in the morning, supports heart health. Experts recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate activity per week, or 75 minutes of vigorous activity to maintain a healthy heart.
