LEBANON - The launch of the “Unified Lebanese Theater Guide,” aimed at documenting the sector and making it more accessible to audiences, was one of the key outcomes of a recent meeting held by the Lebanese Theater Producers Association in Beirut.

After their first meeting late last year, the association gathered again to assess the current state of Lebanese theater and look ahead to the challenges of 2026. This comes amid the country’s ongoing economic and security difficulties, which directly affect this vital cultural sector.

The participants emphasized that theater is a space for freedom, expression, and dialogue. They stressed that it can only thrive when its workers support one another and collaborate with everyone who believes in theater as a core pillar of Lebanon’s cultural life.

During the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening solidarity and cooperation among theater producers and creators across Lebanon. Participants also explored ways to support all types of theater productions and encouraged theater professionals to join the association.

The meeting further addressed taxes imposed on the theater sector and the need to coordinate with official authorities to resolve related challenges.

In addition, participants discussed a comprehensive strategy to attract and grow theater audiences throughout Lebanon.

The association concluded by stressing that protecting theater is not a cultural luxury, but a national necessity. This meeting is part of an ongoing process of consultation and coordination aimed at uniting efforts, safeguarding this vital cultural sector, promoting its presence, and defending the rights of those who work in it.
