BEIRUT — Lebanon and Jordan will sign 20 economic agreements, memoranda of understanding and cooperation protocols as part of efforts to strengthen economic ties between the two countries, Economy and Trade Minister Amer Bisat said on Tuesday.

According to L'Orient Today, the agreements are expected to be signed on January 14 during a meeting of the Jordanian-Lebanese Joint Higher Committee.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Jordanian Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan will chair the meeting.

Minister Bisat announced during a preparatory meeting held at the Economy Ministry in Beirut, attended by Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Al-Qudah.

According to Minister Bisat, the agreements involve cooperation across at least 14 ministries on both sides.

They cover several sectors, including industrial cooperation, consumer protection, investment promotion and protection, and the exchange of expertise in taxation and regulation.

Other areas of cooperation include trade facilitation, public administration, energy, transport, digital services and tourism.

Minister Bisat described Jordan as a strategic economic partner for Lebanon and said the agreements aim to strengthen trade and encourage cooperation between the public and private sectors in both countries.
