LEBANON - The Ministry of Agriculture – Akkar Agriculture Department announced in a statement that a written pledge was signed today by one of the individuals who violated the ministry’s decision and trespassed on a protected cedar tree that had been fenced by the ministry.
This came after a group of young people climbed the tree despite clear instructions prohibiting approaching or climbing it.
After identifying those involved, they were summoned to the department’s office, where they were informed of the seriousness of the violation and warned about the importance of respecting classified and protected natural sites.
The ministry stressed that trespassing on protected cedar trees undermines environmental protection systems and exposes Lebanon’s natural heritage to unjustified risks.
As part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard natural symbols and preserve environmental heritage, the Ministry of Agriculture – Akkar Agriculture Department had previously installed an iron fence around the tree.
This measure followed repeated attempts by visitors to approach or climb the tree for photography purposes, prompting direct intervention to protect both the site and public safety.
The Akkar Agriculture Department affirmed that it will continue to monitor and address any similar violations and will take all necessary legal measures against individuals who trespass on public property or violate existing regulations and instructions.
The ministry concluded by calling on residents and visitors alike to respect guidelines at natural sites and to protect ancient trees and environmental landmarks, which are an integral part of Lebanon’s national identity and natural heritage.
