LEBANON - Tourism Minister Laura Al-Khazen Lahoud on Friday decided to revoke a measure introduced nearly four years ago that allowed tourism establishments to display their prices in US dollars.

The decision overturns a directive issued on June 2, 2022, by former tourism minister Walid Nassar, at a time when Lebanon was experiencing extreme monetary instability.

Back then, the Lebanese pound was trading at highly volatile market rates, while multiple exchange rates coexisted, including those set by the Banque du Liban for dollar withdrawals, alongside the long-maintained official rate.

The authorization to price services in dollars was widely seen as a temporary response aimed at reducing uncertainty for tourism operators and foreign visitors amid the currency collapse.

The move comes as Lebanon shows tentative signs of economic stabilization. According to recent assessments by international financial institutions, the country recorded modest growth in 2025, driven mainly by tourism and private consumption.
