LEBANON- Beirut recently dedicated a park to honor journalists and media professionals, in a move aimed at recognizing their national role.
The park is more than just a green space; it symbolizes acknowledgment of the media’s importance in delivering the truth, promoting democracy, and serving the community under challenging circumstances.
In an exclusive interview with Enmaeya, Minister of Information Paul Morcos revealed the details of the project. He emphasized that the initiative recognizes the media’s vital role in defending freedom of expression, documenting Lebanon’s history, and serving the public under difficult conditions.
Morcos added that journalists deserve public recognition, and the municipality’s initiative honors their dedication, sacrifices, and commitment to the truth.
He said the Ministry of Information helped the project by giving guidance, connecting with media bodies, and making sure it shows professionalism, inclusivity, and freedom of expression.
The minister described this cooperation as a model of constructive partnership between public institutions in serving cultural and national causes.
Regarding the choice of journalists and media professionals for this recognition, Morcos stressed that the goal is to acknowledge their continuous commitment to truth, transparency, and public awareness.
The minister also explained that the initiative aims to honor their sacrifices, courage, and the important role they play in strengthening democracy and social responsibility.
When asked about the park’s location, Morcos explained that it is situated in Beirut in a space open and accessible to all citizens, noting that the choice reflects the principle that journalism belongs to the public and is closely connected to society.
Regarding the official opening, the minister said it is expected soon after final preparations are completed, expressing hope that the park will host cultural and media activities, including public discussions, exhibitions, and other events.
He also expressed hope that the initiative would expand to other regions in Lebanon, transforming the recognition of journalists and media professionals into a lasting national tradition rather than a standalone project.
This initiative aims to ensure that every journalist receives their rightful recognition for their role in delivering the truth and serving the community.
