LEBANON - Lebanon’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Nizar Hani, received Denmark’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Kristoffer Vivike, at his office on Tuesday to discuss Danish-funded development projects supporting Lebanon’s agricultural sector.
The meeting took place within the framework of broader cooperation with international partners, notably the European Union and the French Development Agency (AFD).
Discussions focused on a strategic development project valued at USD 28 million, of which Denmark is contributing USD 5 million, with the remaining funding provided by the European Union and AFD.
The project aims to rehabilitate the agricultural sector in southern Lebanon, particularly in villages and areas affected by the recent war in Lebanon, as part of a comprehensive approach to agricultural recovery and sustainable rural development.
Talks centered on several key priorities, including the allocation of funding to ensure maximum development impact and the review of field damage assessments conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
These assessments are expected to serve as a scientific and technical foundation for the agricultural rehabilitation program.
Minister Hani described the project as a “strategic and advanced step” in the recovery of the agricultural sector in southern Lebanon, stressing that it reflects the commitment of international partners to supporting Lebanon during the recovery phase.
He emphasized the importance of directing funding toward sustainable programs that enhance agricultural productivity, protect farmers’ livelihoods, and support social and economic stability in affected areas.
