LEBANON – The Lebanese Order of Physicians has issued a public awareness statement marking Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, emphasizing the importance of prevention, early detection, and timely medical follow-up to protect women’s health.

In the statement, released through its Environment and Public Health Committee, the Order reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and raising awareness about cervical cancer, describing it as a disease that is largely preventable and highly treatable when detected early.

The Order highlighted that regular screening plays a critical role in identifying early cellular changes before they develop into cancer. Early detection, it noted, significantly improves recovery rates and reduces complications associated with advanced disease.

Key preventive measures outlined in the statement include routine cervical screening, such as Pap smears and human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, conducted in accordance with medical guidelines.

The Order also stressed the importance of HPV vaccination, citing its proven role in reducing the risk of cervical cancer.

Women were urged to consult healthcare providers if they experience unusual symptoms, including abnormal vaginal bleeding or persistent pelvic pain. The statement encouraged individuals to speak with primary care physicians or gynecologists to determine appropriate preventive screenings based on personal health history.

The Order clarified that the statement is intended for awareness purposes only and does not replace professional medical consultation. It concluded by underscoring that awareness and early detection remain among the most effective tools in saving lives.
