LEBANON — Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rassamni on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening and expanding public transport in Lebanon.

He described the sector as entering a phase of accelerated growth with the introduction of new buses and the opening of additional routes covering wider areas of the country.

In a statement, Minister Rassamni said the expansion aims to facilitate mobility for citizens and to position public transport as a modern, reliable, and essential component of daily life.

He noted that the development of shared transport services is a key pillar in improving accessibility and easing transportation challenges faced by residents across different regions.

Emphasizing passenger comfort and service reliability, the minister stressed that the public transport system operates in accordance with clear regulatory standards and fixed preventive measures to ensure a smooth and reassuring travel experience.

He said all buses operating within the official network are equipped with modern monitoring systems and are subject to continuous oversight to guarantee proper operations and maintain discipline within the public service.

Minister Rassamni also underlined that the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, in full coordination with security forces and other relevant authorities, is adopting a strict and decisive approach in addressing any illegal practices, acts of vandalism, or attacks targeting public transport buses or related property.

He warned that those involved in such actions would be pursued and subjected to the full extent of the law, without leniency, to deter any attempt to undermine this vital public facility.

The minister further confirmed the authority of the Railway and Public Transport Authority, which operates under the supervision of the ministry, to oversee issues related to the sector.

He said the authority is responsible for addressing challenges in cooperation with concerned parties and for completing the necessary regulatory and deterrent measures to ensure continuity of service and safeguard the public interest.
