WORLD - OpenAI has introduced Prism, a free AI-powered workspace designed specifically for researchers and scientists.

The platform aims to simplify the research process by combining drafting, citation management, collaboration, and idea testing into a single interface.

Built on OpenAI’s advanced GPT‑5.2 model, Prism allows users to reason through complex problems, create equations and diagrams, and integrate academic literature.

Researchers can now draft manuscripts, manage references, and collaborate in real time without switching between multiple apps.

“Prism removes the need for separate tools like LaTeX editors and reference managers, letting scientists focus on ideas rather than formatting,” OpenAI said in a statement.

Prism is free for anyone with a personal ChatGPT account, with no limits on projects or contributors.

OpenAI plans to extend access to businesses and institutions through its ChatGPT Business and Enterprise plans in the coming months, expanding its reach into organized research and academic settings.

By integrating AI with real-time collaboration, OpenAI hopes Prism will make scientific writing faster, easier, and more accessible.

The tool’s success will be measured by adoption among researchers and its impact on long-standing academic workflows.

For now, scientists globally can start using Prism immediately, testing whether it represents a new era in AI-assisted research.
