BEIRUT - The European Union–funded Circular 2 project, formally titled “Private Sector Transition to a Green and Circular Economy in Lebanon,” concluded with a high-level closing ceremony held at the Mövenpick Hotel in Beirut.
The event brought together representatives from the public and private sectors, international partners, and project beneficiaries to mark the completion of an initiative aimed at advancing sustainable industrial transformation and circular economy practices in Lebanon.
Implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and funded by the European Union, the Circular 2 project supports Lebanon’s shift from a linear “take–make–waste” model toward a green and circular economy.
The project has focused primarily on the industrial sector, particularly food and beverage manufacturers, by promoting resource efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable production models.
Minister of Industry Joe Issa El Khoury highlighted the project’s alignment with national priorities, noting that 2Circular supports the government’s vision for a modern, innovation-driven industrial sector that can help curb youth migration and reduce the trade deficit.
The initiative aims to promote circular economy practices across Lebanon’s industrial landscape and strengthen cooperation among public institutions, industry stakeholders, and development partners.
