LEBANON - The Ministry of Agriculture, as part of its leadership of national efforts to protect the livestock sector and enhance food security, signed an emergency support project in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The project aims to control the spread of foot-and-mouth disease affecting animal production in the country and to strengthen health and veterinary preparedness.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Nizar Hani, and the FAO Representative in Lebanon, Nora Ourabah Haddad.
It was described as a pivotal step reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and mobilizing them in support of national priorities.
Through this initiative, FAO will provide direct support to the Lebanese government by prioritizing the second phase of the emergency vaccination campaign targeting cattle and small ruminants.
The project also focuses on building farmers’ capacities through awareness programs and technical support, developing standard operating procedures for disease surveillance and response, and preparing periodic reports to ensure close monitoring and timely decision-making.
