
LEBANON– Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani oversaw the signing of three memorandums of understanding with local and international partners.
The initiative focuses on institutional partnerships, capacity building, and investment in high-value crops to strengthen food security and boost the sector’s resilience to economic and climatic challenges.
Minister Hani emphasized a participatory approach that combines youth energy with farmers’ expertise.
He added that the Ministry will expand cooperation with international organizations, associations, local authorities, and the private sector to direct funding toward projects that directly benefit farmers and rural communities.
He noted that the Ministry is modernizing its administrative and technical infrastructure, enhancing field presence, and developing agricultural advisory services.
The partnerships established so far have improved the Ministry’s capabilities and paved the way for more sustainable development projects.
Lebanese German Cooperation in Akkar
The Ministry signed a memorandum with the RET Germany / GATE Lebanon coalition, supported by the German BMZ, to promote sustainable agricultural development, empower women and vulnerable groups, and improve rural livelihoods in Akkar.
High-Value Crops Partnership with Bioland
Another memorandum was signed with Bioland S.A.R.L. to develop aromatic herb cultivation and sustainable essential oil production. Minister Hani announced plans to form a sectoral committee, highlighting the sector’s growth and export potential.
Enhancing Advisory Services with LOST
The Ministry also partnered with the Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) to expand advisory services, build farmers’ capacities, and support the food industry, particularly in the Bekaa and Baalbek–Hermel regions.
