LEBANON – The American University in Cyprus, in cooperation with the “Public Health Consultants” group, held the graduation ceremony of the first cohort of the “Public Health Leaders” Certificate Program at the Training and Conference Center in the General Administration Building of Middle East Airlines.
The event took place under the patronage of Minister of Public Health Dr. Rakan Nassereddine, with the attendance of Minister of Social Affairs Hanan El Sayed, former Health Minister Prof. Mohammad Jawad Khalifeh as guest of honor, and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Hassan Ouda, alongside health sector professionals.
The ceremony opened with the Lebanese national anthem. Minister Nassereddine congratulated the graduates, highlighting their expected role in advancing public health in Lebanon.
He stated that primary healthcare is the cornerstone of any sustainable health system, noting that the historical focus on hospitalization increased healthcare costs, while investment in prevention and early diagnosis is more effective.
He also referred to a qualitative shift in the Ministry’s approach to financing primary care, explaining that after the state budget was approved, a financial ceiling was adopted for primary healthcare centers, paving the way for contracts similar to those signed with hospitals.
The Minister underlined full coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs, describing both ministries as “one ministry with two persons,” particularly in data exchange, social care, and support for displaced people in the South.
He concluded by reaffirming that healthcare remains a top priority and thanked the university and supporting partners.
