LEBANON— Lebanon has secured more than $115 million in international pledges to support emergency humanitarian efforts following recent escalation and displacement, Social Affairs Minister Haneen Al-Sayed said.
Speaking after the conclusion of a visit by António Guterres, Minister Al-Sayed said the trip underscored continued international backing for Lebanon and growing efforts to de-escalate tensions so displaced families can return home as soon as possible.
“The visit confirms that Lebanon has many friends around the world and that there is real international support to stop the recent escalation,” Minister Al-Sayed said in a statement.
She added that Lebanon had received significant commitments through an urgent humanitarian Flash Appeal launched Friday from the Grand Serail to help the government sustain relief operations and support shelters hosting displaced families.
According to the pledges announced so far, contributions include $11.5 million from Italy, $7.5 million from Switzerland, $11.5 million from the European Union, $56 million from Germany, $28 million from Canada, $500,000 from Norway and $110,000 from Belgium, bringing the total to $115.11 million.
