LEBANON – The Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture announced that it is intensifying emergency measures to support farmers and protect agricultural production amid the difficult conditions the country is facing.
These measures include assisting farmers in affected areas to continue their work, providing fodder for livestock breeders, and relocating livestock and beehives to safer areas to limit potential losses.
The ministry is also working to ensure the continuity of food supply chains and coordinating with local and international partners to identify the needs of the agricultural sector and redirect programs to safer areas.
The steps also include adding fresh fruits to the food baskets distributed in shelters, in a move aimed at supporting local production while meeting the food needs of displaced people.
As part of response planning, the ministry has formed a technical team to conduct a rapid assessment of the agricultural sector’s needs, in cooperation with the National Council for Scientific Research, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and the United Nations Development Programme, with the aim of identifying priority interventions and strengthening food security in Lebanon.
