WORLD - Delegations from around the world are meeting this month to agree on the main themes and structure of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, a UN‑led forum that addresses the rapid growth and impact of artificial intelligence.
The Dialogue was created under General Assembly resolution A/RES/79/325, following the 2024 Summit of the Future and the adoption of the Global Digital Compact.
It brings together all 193 UN Member States, as well as experts, civil society groups, and private sector representatives, to discuss ways to manage AI safely and fairly.
The first full plenary of the Dialogue is expected in July 2025 in Geneva.
According to Digwatch, key themes under discussion include AI safety and trust, ways to reduce gaps in digital access, ethical and human‑rights concerns, and how national AI rules can work together internationally.
These priorities aim to make AI development safe, transparent, and aligned with global standards and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Independent International Scientific Panel on AI, recently set up by the UN, will provide research and advice to guide the Dialogue. Its reports are expected to inform discussions and support evidence‑based decision‑making.
