Middle East – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has warned that the effects of the war in the Middle East are starting to show in rising fertilizer prices, which in turn increase global food costs, with impacts reaching developing economies.

The organization said that the conflict is driving up fertilizer prices worldwide due to supply disruptions, while higher fertilizer costs could push global food prices even higher in the coming period.

The FAO also noted that if the war continues, remittances from migrant workers in Gulf countries could decline, affecting household incomes in developing countries, especially in Asia and Africa.

The organization stressed that the combined pressure from rising food and energy costs could worsen living conditions in fragile economies.

Estimates indicate that the war’s impacts are not limited to energy alone, but extend to agricultural production chains and the global economy, increasing risks to food security in countries that rely heavily on imports.
