BEIRUT - A meeting held at the Beirut Governorate has highlighted a new initiative aimed at improving housing conditions for persons with disabilities through subsidized renovation loans.
The meeting brought together Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, Chairman and General Manager of the Housing Bank Antoine Habib, and the governor’s advisor Joe Rahal to discuss a proposal offering loans in Lebanese pounds to finance home rehabilitation works.
Speaking after the meeting, Habib said the program is designed to support renovation projects, particularly those that adapt homes to meet the needs of people with disabilities better.
He noted that the initiative could play a key role in addressing long-standing accessibility challenges faced by this group. Habib also proposed exploring cooperation with Rahal to help promote the project among targeted communities.
He emphasized Rahal’s strong professional reputation and his active advocacy on behalf of persons with disabilities, describing his involvement as a potential driver of expanding the initiative’s reach and impact.
Rahal, for his part, shared insights into the daily challenges faced by persons with disabilities in Lebanon, stressing that they often receive limited support from public institutions.
The discussions remain ongoing, with officials seeking to assess the feasibility of the partnership and define its implementation mechanisms.
