LEBANON — Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport said it is continuing field operations in southern Lebanon for a second day under its “Reconnect Lebanon” campaign. The work aims to reopen key roads and reconnect towns and villages.
In a statement, the ministry said its teams succeeded in partially reopening the international highway at Burj Rahhal despite damage to a key bridge.
Temporary emergency repairs have allowed limited traffic to resume, with further technical work expected in the coming days. The ministry noted that traffic has been moving in both directions alongside ongoing works due to urgent mobility needs.
Movement is currently partial, and more repairs are planned in the coming days. Cars have been moving in both directions despite ongoing work due to the urgent need.
In coordination with the Litani River Authority, crews diverted the river to undamaged sections under the bridge. This helped keep the road open, which is a key route to Tyre and Bint Jbeil.
Teams also restored traffic at the Qasmiyeh bridge on the coastal road. In cooperation with the Lebanese Army, they reopened the Khardali road linking Nabatieh and Marjayoun.
Other work included clearing debris and reopening roads in several areas. These include Debbine, Tura, Bafliyeh, Tyre, and Burj al-Shamali. Engineers also inspected damaged bridges, including Qaaqaiyet al-Jisr and Kana, which were reported fully destroyed.
The ministry said the work is a priority to help people reach their homes and access essential services, especially hospitals. It urged citizens to follow safety instructions and cooperate with teams on the ground.
