LEBANON – Since 2 March, the lives of many children in Lebanon have undergone dramatic changes amid the difficult circumstances facing the country.
With growing challenges and an urgent need for humanitarian intervention, the United Nations Children’s Fund (United Nations Children's Fund) in Lebanon launched the “Aqwa” programme, an initiative aimed at protecting children and preventing them from becoming “forgotten victims” of the ongoing conflict.
As part of its interventions during this critical phase, UNICEF announced tangible results achieved under the programme, including urgent medical and surgical care, as well as psychosocial support for children and caregivers.
According to the figures, 30 children received urgent surgical operations needed to save their lives. In addition, specialized mental health and psychosocial support services were provided to 95 children and caregivers to help them cope with the psychological impact of the ongoing situation.
UNICEF also called on the local community and activists to support its efforts by sharing its hotline numbers, ensuring access to services for as many children as possible, under the slogan: “Reaching #Every_Child in time.”
This initiative comes at a time of intensified humanitarian efforts in Lebanon to mitigate the impact of the crisis on children, who continue to face growing challenges affecting their mental and physical well-being as well as their future stability.
