BEIRUT - A French humanitarian aid plane carrying 28 tonnes of medical supplies and medicines landed this afternoon at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport, as part of France’s ongoing support to Lebanon.
The shipment was formally handed over at the airport’s cargo terminal in the presence of French envoy Bruno Pereira da Silva and Director General of Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health Fadi Sinan. The supplies will be transferred to the Ministry of Public Health for distribution to hospitals and healthcare centers across the country.
Sinan said that Lebanon’s healthcare sector has suffered more than 10,000 casualties, including fatalities and injuries, as well as extensive damage to hospitals, primary care centers, and ambulances.
He added that over 100 healthcare workers have been killed, underscoring the scale of the challenges facing the system.
For his part, Pereira da Silva said conditions on the ground remain severe, with ongoing clashes and shelling in southern Lebanon forcing more than one million people to flee their homes. He described the latest delivery as part of France’s broader humanitarian response, following two previous shipments totaling 40 tonnes.
France has so far delivered hundreds of tonnes of aid to Lebanon and will continue to support the population during this critical period, he said, adding that the medical supplies will be distributed through public healthcare facilities to help meet growing needs.
