BEIRUT — Lebanon’s Ministry of Culture announced that it has received a donation from the Honor Frost Foundation to develop a dedicated digital platform aimed at preserving, publishing, and expanding access to the archaeological journal Baal and its archive.

In a statement, the ministry said the project will also include future issues of the journal, contributing to the preservation and dissemination of Lebanese archaeological and scientific knowledge. It added that the platform will facilitate access for researchers, students, and the general public in Lebanon and abroad.

Since its establishment by the Directorate General of Antiquities, Baal has documented major archaeological discoveries, research, excavations, and studies related to Lebanon’s cultural heritage and the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.

The ministry emphasized that digitizing such archival material is essential for ensuring long-term preservation and improving accessibility in an era where academic resources are increasingly consumed online.

It noted that making the journal available digitally will also support international academic collaboration and raise the visibility of Lebanon’s archaeological scholarship.

The Honor Frost Foundation, established to support maritime archaeology in the Eastern Mediterranean, has been involved in several cultural heritage projects in Lebanon over recent years.

The digital platform is expected to serve as a reference point for archaeological research on Lebanon, providing access to academic work and newly published studies.
