After Years of Waiting... The First Civilian Flight Will Take Off from Qlayaat Airport
After years of anticipation, Qlayaat Airport is nearing the launch of civilian operations as operational preparations are finalized and the necessary licenses have been granted.
LEBANON – Qlayaat Airport is preparing to receive its first civilian flights this October, marking one of the most anticipated development projects in northern Lebanon after years of waiting.
Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamni announced that preparations are progressing according to schedule, following the Council of Ministers' decision to grant the licenses required to operate the airport. The move paves the way for the launch of the first operational phase in line with legal procedures and internationally recognized safety standards.
The airport is expected to help ease congestion at Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport while boosting travel to and from northern Lebanon. It is also expected to stimulate economic and tourism activity, attract new investments, and create direct and indirect job opportunities in Akkar and neighboring areas.
The project is widely seen as a strategic step toward strengthening Lebanon's air transport network and reconnecting the country's north to civil aviation, opening new opportunities for investment and development after years of anticipation surrounding the airport's operation.
