In 2024, the Hariri Foundation, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Ministry of Environment, and within the framework of the SwitchMed II programme funded by the European Union (EU), launched the first national platform addressing the future of Lebanon’s Blue Economy.
LBED2024 came with key outcomes and decisions to advance Lebanon’s Blue Economy. Strategic partnerships were established to enhance maritime infrastructure and promote sustainable practices along the coast. A comprehensive national policy framework was developed, focusing on sustainable fisheries, tourism, and port operations.
The conference also set the foundation for annual reviews to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of Lebanon’s Blue Economy. Today, the BE dialogue stands as a pivotal milestone in advancing Lebanon’s commitment to a thriving blue economy and sustainable future. The ongoing dialogue aims to facilitate knowledge exchange on best practices, innovative technologies, and effective policy frameworks, and strengthen networks and partnerships between public and private sectors
