The International Day of Charity raises awareness of the importance of charitable efforts in alleviating poverty and suffering and encourages people, organizations, and communities worldwide to engage in volunteerism and philanthropy.
In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly, through Resolution A/RES/67/105, designated 5 September as the International Day of Charity, to commemorate the anniversary of the passing of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, known for her tireless work with the poor and vulnerable.
The International Day of Charity also supports the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and advances the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, emphasizing compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility for a more inclusive world.
