Description

COP serves as the world’s primary forum for climate negotiations, uniting nations to assess and negotiate actions for addressing climate change. With its roots in the 1992 UNFCCC, COP has expanded to include a diverse range of stakeholders, from governments to non-state actors, driving climate action across sectors.

Each year, countries come together to assess progress and set new targets for limiting global warming, enhancing resilience, and securing financial flows in line with climate objectives. The Paris Agreement’s inclusive approach requires all nations to submit their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), advancing a collaborative global effort. Beyond the formal negotiations, COP’s Action Agenda fosters voluntary commitments from businesses, NGOs, and other actors, further accelerating climate action.

COP also plays a crucial role in engaging youth and bridging the gap between governments and non-state actors through initiatives like the Climate Champions and the Presidency Youth Climate Champion (PYCC). The IPCC’s latest scientific findings continue to guide critical decision-making, ensuring that international climate policies are grounded in the most up-to-date evidence.
