On July 9–10, global leaders will meet at the UN in New York to shape the agenda for the 2026 UN Water Conference in the UAE.
This preparatory meeting will define six key themes — from governance and innovation to finance and equity — setting the stage for global action on SDG 6: clean water and sanitation for all.
It will bring together UN Member States, UN agencies, civil society, academia, and private sector stakeholders to finalize the six interactive dialogue themes that will structure the 2026 conference. Key discussions will focus on building on the momentum of the 2023 Water Conference, emphasizing water governance, transboundary cooperation, inclusivity, data, finance, and innovation.
Special attention will be given to creating enabling environments for implementation, through improved financing, capacity building, and knowledge sharing. This preparatory meeting reaffirms global commitment to accelerating progress on SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation) and set the stage for further regional dialogues ahead of the main conference.
