This summit is a high-level review and renewal of the original World Summit on the Information Society's (2003 & 2005) Geneva Plan of Action, taking stock of its impact and mapping next steps for global digital cooperation.
It is co-hosted by the ITU and Swiss Confederation, and co-organized with UNESCO, UNDP, UNCTAD, and supported by 40+ UN agencies (FAO, WHO, UNICEF, etc.). Occurring parallel to the AI for Good Global Summit at Palexpo, encouraging cross-dialogue on technology, AI, and development.
The summit will set the global agenda on digital cooperation, defining priorities for connectivity, inclusion, data governance, and ethical tech approaches. The aim is to shape the narrative leading into major UN decisions later in 2025, anchoring digital transformation in post-2030 development goals.
The overall objectives are the following:
Evaluate 20 years of progress in closing the digital divide and promoting ICT for sustainable development.
Shape shared vision ahead of the UNGA 20-year high-level review scheduled for September 2025.
Explore emerging issues: AI governance, cybersecurity, connectivity challenges, post-quantum security, inclusive infrastructure, and digital trust.
Ministers, regulators, UN leaders, industry heads, civil society, academia, youth delegates, from over 150 countries will attend the summit.
