The 2025 Sustainable Development Report offers the most comprehensive data-driven assessment of global progress on the SDGs, tracking all UN member states using over 200,000 data points and 200+ country profiles. Now in its eighth edition, the report reveals that while commitment to the SDGs remains high—190 countries have presented national plans—no goal is on track globally for 2030. East and South Asia lead in progress, with standout performers including Benin, Peru, and the UAE. However, significant obstacles persist, especially for developing countries constrained by debt and limited fiscal space. This year's report also introduces updated measures of support for UN-based multilateralism, with Barbados topping the index and the U.S. ranking last following its withdrawal from key global agreements.
At the heart of the report is a call to reform global financing systems to unlock capital for emerging and developing economies—where the need and return on investment are greatest. With the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development approaching, the SDR urges bold commitments to realign global financial flows and ensure sustainable development becomes a shared global reality.
