YEREVAN — Armenia’s capital, Yerevan, will host the 2026 United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP17) from October 19 to 30, 2026, under the theme “Taking Action for Nature.”

The conference will include the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), alongside the 12th meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (MOP12) and the sixth meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol (MOP6).

One of the key highlights of COP17 will be the first Global Review of collective progress in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).

Taking place four years after the framework was adopted at COP15, the review will provide the first comprehensive assessment of global progress in turning biodiversity commitments into concrete action.

It will assess how far countries have advanced toward the goal of halting and reversing biodiversity loss, while identifying pathways to accelerate implementation and address remaining gaps.

The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework serves as a global roadmap for protecting biodiversity and ecosystems, promoting their sustainable use and guiding international action through 2030 and beyond.

The COP17 conference is expected to serve as a key opportunity to assess implementation of these commitments and identify the actions and priorities needed to accelerate global efforts to protect biodiversity.
