LEBANON – UNICEF has helped improve access to safe water and sanitation for more than 550,000 people across 82 villages in South Lebanon, including communities affected by displacement and the ongoing crisis.
With funding from the European Union, the initiative supported the rehabilitation and operation of the Sainik wastewater treatment plant and its pumping stations, in cooperation with the South Lebanon Water Establishment.
Access to safe water and sanitation has significantly improved through these interventions, benefiting hundreds of thousands of people across the region.
This intervention focuses on protecting children’s health by ensuring proper wastewater treatment and reducing environmental and public health risks in vulnerable communities.
It also strengthens essential water infrastructure in areas heavily affected by displacement and ongoing regional challenges.
The project highlights the importance of sustainable sanitation systems as a key element in protecting children’s well-being and supporting resilient communities across Lebanon.
