LEBANON- The Ministry of Environment, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and under the EU-funded “Tadweer” project, launched its first training sessions for municipalities, bringing together more than 120 representatives from municipalities across Mount Lebanon and the Bekaa.
The training focused on the practical implementation of the cost-recovery law for solid waste management, including clarifying municipal roles and responsibilities, addressing field-level challenges, and strengthening municipalities’ capacity to provide more efficient and sustainable services.
The sessions also provided a space for experience-sharing and discussion of practical solutions for integrated waste management, with a focus on source segregation, reuse and recycling as key elements in the transition towards a circular economy.
The training sessions in Mount Lebanon and the Bekaa are part of a broader programme that will extend to municipalities across Lebanon, supporting them in the practical implementation of the new solid waste management framework.
